Sept. 2

VFW Post 3366 will have its monthly meeting of all members in good standing. Meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend and participate!



Sept. 7

The Sunbeam Club will follow the life of a trainman as they celebrate Labor Day on the road. For all those who are retired and active railroaders, their families, friends, and train-lovers come hear the whistle blow at the Ennis Family Restaurant, 2709 S. Kaufman St., Ennis. Sept. 8

MAAG (Methodist Active Adult Group) will open their new year  at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Ennis. All are invited to share this special day which will include entertainment from the musical talent of Charles Newman. Invite a friend or two, bring a veggie, salad, or desert. Sept. 11

American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., Corsicana, invites members and their guests for an evening of “Walker Creek Karaoke” with Loran from 8:30 to 12:30 a.m. Sons of the American Legion will have a spaghetti dinner with trimmings from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information call after 2 p.m. (903) 874-3938.

    VFW Post 3366 will host Country Sue’s Karaoke! The karaoke will be held in the post canteen! Sue has thousands of songs to choose from and her sound is second to none! You will be on center stage. Come be a star! VFW is open from 4 p.m. till midnight!

Beaton St., Corsicana, invites members and their guests to an evening of “Country Sue’s Karaoke” from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. There is no cover charge.  There will be no cover charge. VFW Post 3366 to host Country music singer and songwriter Tony Booth will entertain in Corsicana. There will be a dance from 8 to12 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale for $10 each and can be purchased at the VFW canteen. The canteen is open Monday through Sat. 4 to 12p.m. All tickets at the door will be $15 each. For more information call (903) 872-3811.

  • North Texas firm announces jerky recall

    Texas Slabs’ jerky has issued a voluntary recall notice, effective Friday, according to proprietor Scott McGinty.
    The company makes flavored beef jerky and is headquartered out of Mansfield. Some of the jerky was distributed in Corsicana in January.

    The once-a-decade fight over political boundaries in Texas has been so frenetic that a Democrat who bolted for the GOP saw his state House district redrawn solidly blue, opted against re-election, then got new hope from the U.S. Supreme Court that it might go red again.
    And amid all the confusion, a deadline of Monday looms for some kind of redistricting compromise.
