Corsicana — Police frantically chased a woman speeding through three North Texas counties with two small children in the car with her.
Initial reports said the incident was a kidnapping, but later a law enforcement official said the involvement of the children was a 'civil matter' and not a kidnapping, reportedly involving a woman and children from Navarro County.
Dallas County sheriff's spokesman Kim Leach says the car was speeding in excess of 100 mph before police deployed spike strips that blew out her tires and forced her to stop.
The chase started about 3 p.m. Wednesday in Ellis County, but Leach said the reason had not been confirmed. The car with two children, ages 3 and 5, inside sped north through Dallas to the northern Collin County suburbs.
Aerial video showed the tire blowout on the Dallas North Tollway in Plano, prompting her to stop on a side street at 3:40 p.m. Officers, guns drawn, pulled her from the car and rescued the children. No injuries were reported.
