The Literary Club
The Literary Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at Kinsloe House. It will be a business meeting and luncheon.
Thomas Meredith Chapter
Thomas Meredith Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century, will attend the Constitution luncheon and program presented Sept. 16 at Kinsloe House by James Blair Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Woman’s Club House Association
The house committee will host the contribution luncheon on Sept. 23 at Kinsloe House with Arlene Stewart and Ruth Scott as co-chairmen. Members of the committee include Marsha Banks, Donna Ingham, Paula Jones, Margaret Thomas and Doris Wahlenmeier.
Ralph Merlino will present the program titled “Friend and Photographer of Hollywood’s ‘A’ List Movie Stars.” Merlino spent 25 years as a professional photographer in California. During that time he did photographic layouts of stars such as Paul Newman, John Wayne, Bob Hope, Brooke Shields and Angie Dickinson as well as sports legends such as Muhammad Ali and Richard Petty. Merlino recently moved to Texas, looking for a “wide open space” to raise horses. He found the perfect location in Emhouse and has settled into life as a Texan.
This promises to be a uniquely entertaining program. You are encouraged to give Merlino a big Texas howdy.

Corsicana Newcomers Club
Corsicana Newcomers Club will meet Sept. 24 at Kinsloe House, 618 W. Third Ave. Social time will be at 11 a.m. followed by lunch and the meeting. Parking is available across the street behind the Methodist church.
“The Roadrunners” will go to Kaufman Sept. 17. Meet at First Baptist Church parking lot across from H-E-B at 10 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Call Peggy Dixson at (903) 874-8316 so she can set up carpooling.

NARFE
Ellis-Navarro Chapter 1191, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, met at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at Fiesta Grill in Ennis with 28 members and four guests present.
The meeting was called to order by chapter president Moses Miller. Invocation by G.W. Garrard and pledge to flag led by Cecil Windham. The program was by Jess and Brenda Haupt, who were introduced by G.W. Garrard, program chairman.
The Haupts told about their coffee roasting business, Buna Bean Coffee, that they recently started. The business is located on Oak Grove Road in Ennis. They provided some very interesting facts about where coffee beans are grown and the different kinds that are produced. Once they get the beans, they are carried through a precise roasting process. They produce several flavors that can then be ground and brewed by the customer. Jess quoted several myths and facts associated with coffee drinking that dispelled the bad effects of coffee drinking. In fact, it has been proven that drinking coffee in moderation has several desirable health benefits.
Following the program a business meeting was conducted.

ABWA
Navarro Chapter of American Business Women’s Association celebrated it 40th anniversary Sept. 14. The Navarro Chapter has been an active member of Corsicana and Navarro County for 40 years. The organization’s mission is to change women’s lives one woman at a time. Through the years, the association has given over 60 educational scholarships to women of the community. Members participate in various outreach projects each year: Navarro County Food Pantry, Corsicana Fire Department toy drive, Relay for Life, and annual scholarship golf tournament. Programs are to promote professional and personal development as well as recognition. Woman of the Year, Top Ten Candidate and celebrating members’ accomplishments personally and professionally are primary goals of ABWA.
As the Navarro Chapter is celebrating its 40th anniversary, the national ABWA is celebrating 60 years of changing women’s lives through providing opportunities to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition. National headquarters are located in Kansas City, Mo. The anniversary celebration will be held Sept. 25-26.
“How impressive to be a member of an organization with a passion that has stayed strong for 60 and 40 years,” said Becky Long, Navarro Chapter ABWA president. “Our passion for our chapter is commendable and that is due to the commitment of each of our members. Over a span of 40 years women of diverse occupations have bonded together for a common goal to enrich the lives of women in our community.”

Jones, Oct. 12; Kinsloe House luncheon with Zanada Tally, Oct. 22; fall membership meeting, Nov. 16; Christmas fun — Corsicana Fire Department toys for kids, Dec. 14; Rebekah Moss and American Red Cross, Jan. 11; Woman of the Year and style show, Feb. 8; golf tournament organizational meeting, March 8; new member orientation with Dana Collins, April 12; spring membership, May 10; scholarship month, June 14; and new officer installation, July 12.
