Dec. 31

VFW Post 3366 will host a New Year’s Dance from 8 to 12 p.m. at the post. There will be a classic country band, snacks and party favors. The cost is $15 per person, at the door or in advance. For more information, call (903) 872-3811 after 4 p.m.



Jan. 2

Eureka Crime Watch WILL NOT meet in January due to New Year’s Day. Regular monthly meetings will resume in February. Have a safe and happy holiday, and remember all those who go in harm’s way on our behalf.



Jan. 3

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. The speaker will be Navarro County Sheriff Elect Elmer Tanner. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to come and hear our new sheriff.



American Red Cross will hold a Blood Drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 320 N. 15th in Corsicana.



Jan. 5

Mary Peterson Child Care Center will hold a concert and reception at 7:30 p.m. at The Cook Center. The purpose of the concert is to raise funds for a new facility to be constructed for Mary Peterson Child Care Center. This awareness event is themed “Bridge to the Future — Mary Peterson Child Care Center.”



The American Legion Post 22 will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the post at 632 N. Beaton St. There are many business items to be discussed including future projects. All members are urged to attend.



Jan. 6

The Kinsloe House will have its First Sunday Luncheon of the new year from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The First Sunday Luncheon is open to the public. This month’s menu will have an Italian theme with Italian meatball soup, chicken parmesean or Italian beef tips with appropriate vegetables. Since Kinsloe House is closed for the holidays, those wanting to attend the lunch will need to call Jeani at (903) 229-5787 or email her at mamajeani@yahoo.com by January 3.



Jan. 7

The City Of Blooming Grove will hold its Monthly City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce, Blooming Grove, TX  76626.



Jan. 8

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West 7th Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.



The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.  For further information, please call (903) 872-5072.



National Association of Active/Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1191 will hold its monthly meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ryan’s Buffet in Waxahachie. Members and guests are welcome. Mr. Gregory Wilhelm will present a program on the legal aspects of life as a senior citizen. The Corsicana Newcomers' Club Lunch Bunch will dine at the Corsicana Country Club at 11:30 a.m.  Please call Pat Schroeder at (903) 872-9663 for more information and to be included in the reservation for this fun afternoon.



Jan. 12

Big C Jamboree will take place at 7 p.m. at Martin’s Music Hall, 201 South Beaton Street in Corsicana. Featured will be Zanada Schoppert, chuck Wiginton, Ron Sikes, Joe Honea, Jody Thomas, and Bobby Fluker at MC, along with Fred Hayes, Billy Roy Mitcham and Stan Lawhon. Guest performers will be Betty and Jimmy D. Coker, and Jimmy Young.



Heritage Oaks Retirement will have a Breast Cancer Benefit for Fran LaCoste from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. selling barbecue sandwich plates for $5, which includes sandwich, chips, drink and a mint. Jan. 14

The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold a County Executive Committee meeting at 7 p.m. at the Republican Headquarters at 111-B West Third Avenue in Corsicana. State Republican Executive Committeewoman for Senate District 22, Janet Jackson, will conduct precinct chair training. Elections Administrator Danda Parker will renew Deputy Voter Registrar certificates. A social starts at 6:30 p.m. to salute elected officials, hosted by the Navarro County Republican Women. Woodmen of the World Lodge 5 will have its meeting at 6 p.m. in the Lodge Hall at 200 W. Oak Lawn.  All members, their families and guests are cordially invited.

The Navarro County Branch of the NAACP remembers Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with “A Day of Celebration” to include a rally at Bunert Park at 10 a.m. with guest speaker the Rev. Kenneth Walton Jr., pastor of First Independent Baptist Church. Following will be a march to the MLK Center for an oratory contest at noon. Everyone is welcome to participate. Navarro Regional Hospital’s Healthy Woman program presents An Evening with Elizabeth Smart at 6 p.m. at the IOOF Event Center.  Elizabeth’s presentation not only tells her story of being abducted in 2002 and held prisoner for 9 months, but also discusses topics such as overcoming extreme adversity and not allowing your past to dictate your future.     The Corsicana City Council will swear in the new city attorney, and consider requests for money from local charities when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers of the Government Center, 200 N. 12th St. The new city attorney will be Kerri Anderson Donica. She ran unopposed for the position, along with Municipal Judge Mike Russell.

    People who were missing in the wake of the destructive tornadoes in North Texas have been found safe, officials said Friday, but they didn't indicate when residents of one hard-hit neighborhood will be allowed to return to survey damage to their homes.

    The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.

    For the third straight year, Bowie students and faculty have “Teamed  Up to Fight Cancer” — and each team was armed with a catchy name, a sports theme, and its own banner and sporty accessories. Bowie Elementary School is an important part of the success of American Cancer Society’s Navarro County Relay for Life. This year, they raised $4,100.52 for cancer research, bringing their three-year total to over $15,000.
