The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will continue its 41st season with the opening of THE HALLELUJAH GIRLS by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. The talented cast includes Brenda Ballew of Teague; Kelly Kovar and Darlene Pleiner both of Ennis; Joe E. “Joey” McClure of Blooming Grove; Debbie Hanks of Powell; Janet Martin, Ron Motley, David Ross and Norma Russell all of Corsicana. The opening will be Thursday, Sept. 13 which includes the opening night reception immediately following the show. Other performances will be September 14-16, 18, 20-22. Sept. 14
The Corsicana High School Junior Class will hold “Around the World in 80 Bites” fundraiser for the Prom from 5 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the game against Forney. It will be held in the CHS Commons. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from any CHS Junior or from Misty Fletes, Junior Class sponsor.

The Corsicana Visitor's Center will hold a volunteer training session beginning at 1 p.m. The Corsicana Visitor Center is in need of volunteers to greet and help the public who come to the center for assistance. The Visitor Center has a large array of information on Corsicana and other areas in Texas for travelers and local residents. The Open House will offer informatoin about the volunteer opportunity available. Great for college students needing volunteer hours, retired individuals, stay at home moms and dads, anyone who desires to give back to their community. When Are We Going Home Ministry’s Riding High Horsemanship program will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Break N Free camp at 4719 NE CR 1040 in Rice. This is a free riding program for medically challenged, disabled and special needs children 0-21 and their immediate siblings. Lunch is included. Volunteers are available for front and side walking as well as a ramp for wheelchairs. Please RSVP for lunch to wawahn@gmail.com.

Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center will hold its annual fundraiser breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at 1114 E. Sixth Ave. The cost for the breakfast is $5. Last year we were encouraged with the support received from loyal friends, many churches, and the community as a whole. Eureka Masonic Lodge will host its 100th anniversary at 12 p.m. on at Mildred High School cafeteria. This celebration is open to the public and we encourage you to attend.

The Angus Volunteer Fire Department will have a Barbecue dInner and live band starting at 5 p.m. The dinner is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. A great live band will play starting at 7 p.m. and a drawing for cash money will happen at 8 p.m. Please help support us in this annual event. Drawing tickets will be available Saturday evening at the dinner as well as before the event from any Angus firefighter.

Corsicana Main Street will host Assistant State Coordinator Jill Robinson for a presentation on the Main Street 4-Point Approach to downtown revitalization at Napoli’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant, 111 E. The James Blair Chapter of the DAR will be the hosts of the Kinsloe House Luncheon at 12 noon. Suzanne Smith is in charge of the program. Since this program falls during Constitution Week, the speaker for the luncheon will be Dr. Tommy Stringer, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of Navarro College Foundation. Dr. Stringer, well-known in historical circles, will present a program on the U.S. Constitution. Kinsloe members are urged to make reservations early as this will be an excellent program. Members should make their reservations by noon Sept. 17. Cancellations should be made by that day and time also.

Fundraiser for Brandi Snowden will begin at 1 p.m. at the American Legion. Brandi was killed in a terrible accident in June at the age of 31, leaving behind two daughters 13 and 7. Friends are holding this fundraiser to help pay her funeral expenses. There will be a live band, a live auction, dart tournament, horse shoe tournament, shuffle board tournament, and a pool tournament. Also will be barbecue plates for sale. The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Fordyce in Blooming Grove. Guest speakers will be the Hollingsworth sisters — Odessa Smith, Bernice Prater and Mavis Lusk. The will discuss their school years and happenings in Blooming Grove in the 1930's and 1940's. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Taste of Home tickets are now available at the Corsicana Daily Sun. This special event will be held at the Corsicana High School auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. Food, fun and prizes begins at 1 p.m. with a variety of vendor booths and the cooking show begins at 4:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $35 each and includes a special meet and greet before the show with culinary specialist Jamie Dunn. Reserved seating tickets are $20 and general admission are $12. Over 800 were in attendance at our last Taste of Home show in the fall of 2009.
