From Staff Reports
A county-wide test of the “Code Red” reverse 9-1-1 system will be conducted in Navarro County today from 5 to 6:30 p.m., according to Eric R. Meyers, emergency management coordinator for the county.
The “Code Red” system gives city and county officials the ability to communicate with large numbers of residents via telephone calls at the same time.
The system is designed to be used in the event of emergency notifications, and can be targeted to specific streets, areas, or used city- or county-wide.
The city of Corsicana recently used the system to advise residents of mandatory water restrictions that were enacted by the City Council.
Today’s test calls will be made to all of Navarro County with the exception of the city of Corsicana, Meyers said.
When the calls are made, county residents will hear a recording informing them that the call is a test of the Code Red reverse 9-1-1 system, and that if an actual emergency were to occur, the system would be enacted and more information would be provided at that time.
Residents who receive the calls may see the number “1-9-1-1” displayed on caller ID devices.
