Mildred ISD: ‘Investigation ongoing’
Mildred ISD Superintendent Doug Lane released an internal staff memo to the Daily Sun Tuesday, a memo addressing rumors that have been swirling around the school district’s food service program.
“There has been both an internal and external investigation on-going into the operation of this program over the past several weeks,” Lane states in the memo directed to “faculty and staff.”
“The investigations have resulted so far in the suspension of an employee, pending finalization of both the internal and external findings,” Lane continues in the memo. “I have taken the necessary steps to protect the interest of the school district and all reports and conclusions of the investigations have been turned over to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.”
Lane also notes in the memo that he and the district’s administrative staff are potential witnesses and “therefore, we can not have further comment at this time.”
During a telephone interview with the Daily Sun, Lane said the name of the suspended employee is being withheld at this time “due to personnel and privacy issues.”

Tow yard up again at P&Z;
The Corsicana Planning and Zoning Commission will consider a Specific Use Permit for a towing facility at 1900 S. Business 45 when it meets in regular session at 2 p.m. Thursday at city hall.
Eric Hancock has applied in the past for permission to open a car storage yard in Corsicana, to enable his company to receive city towing contracts. His business is currently located in Angus. However, his most recent attempt was rejected because the site, 3025 N. Business 45, was near an entrance to the city and too visible from the highway.
Preliminary and final plats, or mapping, are on the agenda for a site out on U.S. 287, for a site on West Texas Highway 31, one would allow a restaurant, and the other a gravel or sand lot.
Nine demolition orders will be considered, along with two other Specific Use Permits, and one zoning change, necessary for the gravel lot.

College board meets Thursday
The Navarro College Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Arrowhead Room of the Gooch One-Stop Student Center on the college’s Corsicana campus.
During the meeting, the college will officially dedicate a residence hall named for W.H. Norwood, who was instrumental in the history of the college.
Agenda items for Thursday’s meeting include:
• A report on the college’s Oil and Gas program.
• Revisions to room and board fees for fiscal year 2008-09.
• Review plans for a proposed expansion of the Gibson Hall game room and fitness center.
• Review December 2007 financial reports.
• President’s report from Dr. Richard Sanchez, district president.
An open forum time is scheduled at the beginning of the agenda for anyone wishing to address the board of trustees.

Hudson passes board exams
CONROE — Navarro County Tax-Assessor/Collector Russell P. Hudson successfully completed part of Course I toward certification through the Board of Tax Professional Examiners here at the Montgomery County Tax Office last week.
Hudson passed the week-long course with a perfect examination score over rules and requirements for setting and adopting tax rates, rollback rates, assessing property, and tax collection. He will return Wednesday to take a three-day ethics course that will complete his Level I certification.
Participants have a five-year window to complete four certification levels.
The course is sponsored by the Tax Assessor/Collectors Association of Texas (TACA).
