The Dallas Maverick cheerleaders will be performing and signing autographs again at Derrick Days this year, according to Darrell O’Sullivan, tournament director with the Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department.
O’Sullivan made the announcement at the weekly Derrick Days committee meeting Tuesday.
The young women will be appearing in conjunction with the parks department’s three-on-three basketball tournament, scheduled for April 26. Some Navarro College cheerleaders will also be appearing, O’Sullivan said.
The basketball tournament will be giving away $1,000 in cash prizes and trophies, and will have three separate divisions on four courts.
Plans are also coming together for the chili cook-off, which has moved to a new location on 12th Street behind the Corsicana Visitor’s Center.
“They’re trying to get the lot cleared off,” explained Brad Haynie, committee chairman.
Other highlights of the annual festival will be a horseshoe and washer tournament, a parade, street dance, the Shakers and Scrapers car show, and a performance by 7 Bridges, an Eagles tribute band at the Palace Theatre.
Currently, the organizers are seeking participants in the parade, the chili cook-off, the basketball tournament, and the arts and crafts booths. To register for the basketball, call (903) 654-4874.
