SECR 0070, the county road now becoming the focal point of attention for the petroleum industry, has six requests for wells to be drilled pending before the Navarro County Lake Planning and Zoning Commission — but there
P&Z; members will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the basement conference room at the courthouse.
Texas M.O.R. Inc. is making the requests for the six wells. According to the agenda for the Thursday P&Z; meeting, three are injection wells with the other three being oil wells.
Vicki Stoecklein, head of the county’s Office of Planning and Development, said all six drilling requests are for shallow depths and do not include the presence of any hydrogen sulfide gas, also known as “sour gas.”
The sour gas issue has been a hot topic for most of 2008 after another company, O’Ryan Oil and Gas out of Midland, made a request to drill a well on the same county road, SECR 0070.
That request is still pending after several meetings as the oil company and the county attempt to hammer out safety precautions to go with the well.
O’Ryan representatives said at one of those meetings that hydrogen sulfide in the SECR 0070 area is in the deeper formations and their company did not have the drilling rights for shallow depths.
In other business, P&Z; members will consider:
• A final plat for Lakehills Estates by Lundholm and Trahan, LLC. This property consists of 29.01 acres with six tracts in the S.L. Johnson survey and located on SECR 2140.
• A specific use permit for Christopher and Tammy Isbell. This request is for a travel trailer to be used while there home on SECR 3124C is under construction
• A specific use permit for Christopher and Tammy Isbell. This request is for a storage building at the same location.
• A specific use permit with a variance for size for Mike Thurman. This request is for a 16x24 storage building to be located on Lot 12 of Rustling Oaks, Phase III.
• A specific use permit for James E. Wheaton. This request is for the use of a travel trailer while his home is under construction on Lot 67 of Fowlers Point.
• A zoning change for S C and D enterprises, Ltd. This request is from agriculture to Single Family-3. This property is located in the Robert Caradine Survey off South U.S. Highway 287.
• A special events permit for Southport Marina Property.

After the redistricting conflicts that took nearly eight months and multiple lawsuits to resolve, a new congressional districts were carved out, but Navarro County remains in District 6 with incumbent Representative Joe Barton.
However, Barton is facing his toughest challenge to his seat in more than a decade. He has four Republican opponents in the primary, and four Democrats are also vying for the seat in that primary.
All the candidates in both parties were given the same questions and asked to submit their answers for Corsicana Daily Sun readers. These are the four responses we received.
