Navarro County Animals at Risk Foundation meets at 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of every month in the sunroom at Heritage Oaks West. Visitors and anyone interested in animal welfare are always welcome. NCARF is also collecting empty ink jet cartridges, empty laser cartridges and digital cell phones to be recycled. Money received from the recycling will help the homeless and neglected animals of Navarro County. Instead of just tossing these items away, save them and save the life of a deserving cat or dog. Navarro County Reach to Recovery, a service offered free of charge, is a division of the American Cancer Society. Services provided include offering support by breast cancer survivors, literature, temporary breast prosthesis, wigs, exercise instruction for range of motion following surgery, and other support. Disaster Action Team (DAT) leaders are needed. The Corsicana branch of the American Red Cross is seeking experienced professionals to respond to local disasters. The branch is looking for individuals who have prior success in various aspects of management and/or have had success in leadership roles within the public and private sector. DAT meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of the month at 701 W. Second Ave. Newcomers are welcome, and refreshments will be served. The branch is also looking for residents who can come and assist with client follow-up and data entry of current disaster cases. Area Agency on Aging of North Central Texas, Ombudsman Program, needs volunteers interested in advocating for residents in nursing facilities in Navarro County. No previous experience is required, 36 hours of training is provided, it takes only two to three hours per week and the hours are flexible. Ombudsmen (advocates) investigate and work to resolve complaints for or on behalf of the resident and work to educate residents and their families on residents’ rights. Shakers and Scrapers Car Club meets from 6:30 to 10 p.m. the second Friday of each month (March through November) at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2217 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Each month brings a variety of cars and spectators, as well as music, a 50/50 pot, and random door prizes. The cruise nights are weather permitting, and there are no make-up nights for them.



Basics for Living classes are held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. every first and third Saturdays through May at Griffin Chapel Church of God in Christ, 709 E. 12th Ave., (903) 872-1840. The goal is motivate and inspire women of all ages to build themselves, their homes, church and community to the level that God will be pleased. Classes include Bible study and areas of special interest: beginners sewing/craft class, money management, parenting, eating healthy and purchasing items, i.e. cost vs. value.
