May 31

Corsicana/Navarro County tire collection day will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Precinct 1 County Barn, located on State Highway 31 and 45th Street, across from Wal-Mart. Bring any and all of your tires (only tires) to the barn. No commercial tire dealers/haulers will be allowed to dispose of tires. You must be a Navarro County resident, and loads must be tarped and firmly secured to trucks and trailers. Assistance will be available to help unload.



June 1

Rice Cemetery Association will have its annual homecoming at Rice High School. A business meeting will be at 10:15 a.m., a program will be at 11 a.m., followed by a covered dish luncheon. Anyone who has loved ones buried at the Rice Cemetery or connected with the Rice community is invited to attend. June 2

City of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly city council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce, Blooming Grove, TX 76626.



Corsicana Masonic Lodge will have the stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. Buddy Wigley will finish the third part of the history of the Corsicana lodge. A meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. All masons are invited.



Piecemakers Quilt Guild will have its regular meeting at Westhill Church of Christ. Guests are welcome. Fellowship and refreshments will start at 9:30 a.m. and the business meeting will start at 10 a.m. The program will be given by Eileen York. She will demonstrate a stained glass quilt technique. June 2-6

The annual Mildred Drama Camp will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. June 2-6 at the Mildred cafetorium. The camp ensures that each student will get 20 full hours of hands-on theatre training during which they will learn a show and perform it at the end of the week. Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. The speaker will be Deena Smith, Blooming Grove municipal court clerk, who will explain the operations of the city municipal court. Everyone is invited. Light refreshments will be served.



A Corsicana community blood drive with American Red Cross will be held from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Navarro Shriner’s Building, 323 N. Commerce St. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and have a photo ID. Please eat and drink well before donating. Each donor will receive a gift. Corsicana/Navarro County clean-up day will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Corsicana Regional Landfill on Jester Road off East State Highway 31. Bring your junk and trash to the landfill. This can include: large appliances, furniture, entertainment equipment, agricultural pesticide containers (must be triple rinsed, punctured or crushed), daily household garbage, and brush. No tires will be accepted. You must be a Navarro County resident, and loads must be tarped and firmly secured to trucks and trailers. Assistance will be available to help unload. Volunteers will be available to take items to the landfill for elderly or disabled residents in the Corsicana area. For this assistance, call (903) 654-3075 by 4 p.m. June 6 or call before 11 a.m. June 7 to the Corsicana Emergency Corps at (903) 872-5072 to schedule items to be picked up.

Family Caregiver Support Group of Navarro County will meet at 10 a.m. at Abundant Life Fellowship, 3900 Farm-to-Market Road 744 (across from Corsicana High School). The purpose is to give family caregivers a time and place to come together and share hurts, pain, questions, and needs with others who are enduring similar situations or circumstances. Campbell-Elrod Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 11 a.m. at the cemetery. In case of rain, the meeting will be moved to Barry Methodist Church. All family members of those buried in the cemetery are invited to attend the meeting. A covered dish lunch will follow the meeting and speaker.



Purdon reunion family picnic will be at noon at Silver City Fire Station. Due to the loss of several friends and health of a number of other people, the reunion will be on the one day only. Bring a picnic lunch and drinks for you and your family.

Midway Cemetery Association and Midway Church will hold the annual meeting with a covered dish lunch. Meeting will be at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow. Warehouse Living Arts Center Theater, 119 W. Sixth Ave., will hold auditions for “Sylvia” by A.R. Gurney at 7 p.m. The cast calls for two adult men and two adult women. The age ranges are: late teens to 20s, and 40s to 50s for women; and 40s to 50s and 20s to 60s for men. VOICE will offer the Texas Youth Tobacco Awareness Program, a state-approved program for minors charged with attempted purchase, consumption, or possession of tobacco and is designed to the mandates of Texas law. VOICE staff is certified to facilitate this program. The class will be an eight-hour program divided into four two-hour sessions. There will be a choice of morning or afternoon sessions — from 9 to 11 a.m. or from 3 to 5 p.m. June 10, 12, 17 or 19. Classes are $80 (cash only) for all sessions. A benefit for Bruce Holman will be held beginning at 5 p.m. at Frost City Park. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, silent and live auction, live music featuring JJ Bratcher. Holman, a former resident of Frost and son of William and Linda Meskiman, was severely injured in an accident April 26. He will have many months of physical therapy. You are invited to come support Holman and his family. Also, a bank account has been established for donations at Community National Bank and Trust. Donations may be made to “Frost Volunteer Fire Department for Bruce Holman” at the Frost, Streetman and Fairfield bank locations, or at either of the two Corsicana locations.
