Corsicana Rotary Freedom Festival and 2008 Duck Dash will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at I.O.O.F. Park. The entire community is invited to come to this Fourth of July celebration. The 13th annual Kerens Old-Fashioned Fourth, sponsored by the Kerens Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held in downtown Kerens beginning at 6 p.m. Bring your decorated bike, trike, pet (on a leash), baby stroller, scooter, roller skates (use your imagination) and meet in front of the Kerens Chamber of Commerce for the parade. There will be a cake walk, train rides, horseshoe contest, washer pitching contest, bounce slide, cow plop bingo, raffles, live music, and lots more fun and games. Hot dog dinner will be $3, watermelon slices will be $1, and homemade ice cream will be $1. Fireworks will be at the baseball field after dark. Every Friday night there will be Karaoke practice and DJ, starting at 7 p.m. Every Sunday there will be a domino tournament at 3 p.m., starting July 13, and snacks to purchase. Former Mildred school leader passes
Doug Lane, who was superintendent of schools at Mildred Independent School District for 24 years until retiring in 2011, died Sunday at a hospital in Tyler. He was 70 years old.
