From Staff Reports
Collin Street Bakery, Corsicana’s 112-year-old, world-famous baking institution, is branching out.
Operating solely in Corsicana since 1896, Collin Street Bakery made the decision to make Waco its second home. After scouting Texas for almost a year, the ideal location was found at the southeast corner of Interstate 35 and State Highway 31 in Waco. The bakery will build a 10,000 square foot southern plantation style building similar to the retail store in Corsicana on Interstate 45. The 2.72-acre site will be the home of the first Collin Street Bakery store outside of Corsicana.
Collin Street Bakery president Bob McNutt, new store manager Dave Baca, Bellmead City Manager Scooter Radcliffe, and Community Bank and Trust official Jenny Hale were on site for the official ground breaking ceremony. Also representing Collin Street Bakery were Scott Hollomon, vice-president of finance, and Hayden Crawford, director of public relations.
“We are excited to begin work on this site, and look forward to serving our customers in Waco-Bellmead and the I-35 corridor in the next few months,” McNutt said. “Our location on I-45 in Corsicana has surpassed even the most ambitious predictions, and given the much greater traffic count here on I-35, our expectations are high.”
The new location will serve freshly made soups, salads, and sandwiches daily, in addition to all the cookies, cakes, pies, and other goodies that travelers through Corsicana have come to expect over the years.
Collin Street Bakery is a diversified company with a world wide mail-order business. In the 1980s the company took part in the founding of Navarro Pecan Company, the world's largest pecan shelling facility, where it remains a partner. In the 1990s, it purchased a working pineapple plantation in Costa Rica, which is now the world's largest organic pineapple operation.

The race for District 6
After the redistricting conflicts that took nearly eight months and multiple lawsuits to resolve, a new congressional districts were carved out, but Navarro County remains in District 6 with incumbent Representative Joe Barton.
However, Barton is facing his toughest challenge to his seat in more than a decade. He has four Republican opponents in the primary, and four Democrats are also vying for the seat in that primary.
All the candidates in both parties were given the same questions and asked to submit their answers for Corsicana Daily Sun readers. These are the four responses we received.
