Collins Middle School students are currently taking donations for those affected by Hurricane Ike. The students collect donations weekdays from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. during their lunch times. You may also drop off a donation at the CMS office during regular school hours.

Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church. All political candidates whose name will be on the Nov. 4 ballot in Precincts 2 and 3 are invited and will be given time to speak to the group. As always, the public is invited. Blooming Grove Historical Society will have an outside bake sale fund-raiser beginning at 8 a.m. in downtown Blooming Grove on Fordyce Street near Prosperity Bank.



Twilight Home, a non-profit facility, will have a homecoming hamburger dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Fourth Avenue parking lot on the west side of the nursing home. Hamburger plates will be sold for a donation of $6 and will include a burger with trimmings, pinto beans, chips and dessert. Plates are to go only. Corsicana Art League will sponsor “Paint Historic Corsicana.” Look for the bright yellow shirts as artists paint the historic sights of Corsicana during the day Oct. 3-4. Anyone interested in participating check in at the Corsicana Visitor Center after 8 a.m. Oct. 3. Cost will be $15 which includes shirt. Paintings will be taken to The Art Spot at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 4 for a reception, judging and sale. Paintings will be hung a the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce throughout October.

The 2008 Hangar Dance and Dinner will be held from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Corsicana Municipal Airport, sponsored by Corsicana Field Aviation Heritage Foundation. Music will be provided by the Corsicana Swing Orchestra. A barbecue dinner will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Advanced ticket prices are $20 per person and may be purchased at the airport or by phone.
