Police probe sexual assault claim
Two suspects cooperating in investigation of weekend incident
Corsicana Police are investigating a reported sexual assault early Sunday morning at Napoli’s Restaurant in downtown Corsicana. The incident reportedly occurred in a room upstairs at the business, which houses a restaurant and bar downstairs.
It is Daily Sun policy to not identify victims in sexual assault cases.
According to Detective Jason Grant of the Corsicana Police Department, the female victim reported two men in the bar area took her upstairs at the establishment about 1 a.m. Sunday, where two rooms Grant described as “living quarters” were located. The victim said she was then sexually assaulted by the two men. The men then left the room, and the woman sought help. She was taken to Navarro Regional Hospital for an examination following the alleged attack, Grant said.
Ardijan Shala, who identified himself as the owner of Napoli’s, said the upstairs area contains a living room and three rooms where he is currently living with his girlfriend. He said the area is normally locked when he is not upstairs, but that his girlfriend was upstairs watching TV and “left the door open.” He said he did not know how the two men or the woman knew about the upstairs rooms.
“(My girlfriend) saw them walking in ... they said ‘we are going to talk,’” Shala said, and they went into a bedroom. “She thought they were boyfriend and girlfriend and she really didn’t know what to do.” Shala said his girlfriend only saw one man enter the room with the alleged victim, but he didn’t know. He said his girlfriend didn’t see or hear any signs of an assault.
Shala said he knew one of the suspects and had met the second one. He said he gave authorities the name of one of the suspects and found out the name of the second.
The alleged victim is from Corsicana. Grant said two suspects in the incident have been identified, and are cooperating with authorities. He said the two men were believed to be from the Forney area. No charges have been filed in the incident and no arrests have been made. Grant said the investigation is continuing.
