Dec. 5

Camp of the Rising Sun: Camp of the Rising Sun will present a holiday gala from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Halbert House, 1250 W. Third Ave., Corsicana. There will be a live auction, silent auction and raffle. Ticket price is $50, which will include the gala, and a ticket for the home tour to be held the next day. ‘Christmas in Graceland’: “Christmas in Graceland,” an original musical by Jack Foltyn will be presented at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Theatre, 112 W. Sixth Ave., Corsicana. “Christmas in Graceland” is a light-hearted, fun-filled musical set in Graceland. Foltyn will sing favorite Christmas songs and, with the help of dancers, singers and actors, show what it could have been like at the home of the “King” (Elvis). Admission will be $15 or a new, unwrapped gift which will be delivered to others less fortunate. Camp of the Rising Sun: Camp of the Rising Sun will present a holiday home tour from noon to 4 p.m. featuring Corsicana’s Third Avenue homes: The Halbert House, Jimmy Hale, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Steely, Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Jenkins, and Lana Johnson. Collin Street Bakery: Collin Street Bakery, 2035 S. Interstate 45, Corsicana, will have music by the Bethlehem Baptist Church choir at 1:30 and 2 p.m. Also, Santa Claus will be visiting from 2 to 4 p.m.

Festival of Lights: The annual Festival of Lights parade will be held at 6 p.m. in downtown Corsicana, followed by lighting of Community Park. Line up for the parade will begin at 5 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church parking lot, 801 N. 13th St., Corsicana. Entry is free. First United Methodist Church: The chancel choir of First United Methodist Church, 208 N.W., Second St., Hubbard, will present the Christmas cantata “Hope Has Hands” at 2 p.m. For more information, call (254) 576-2313.

Jingle Bell Jog: The 16th annual Jingle Bell Jog, a 5K and 1 mile fun run, will be held at 9 a.m. at the Corsicana YMCA, 400 Oaklawn Drive, Corsicana. Early registration cost will be $6 for youth, $12 for adult, and $20 for family. Race day registration, which will begin at 8 a.m., will be $10 for youth, $15 for adult, and $25 for family. Magnolias and Mistletoe: The eighth annual Magnolias and Mistletoe Christmas celebration will be held in downtown Hubbard. A pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department. First Baptist Church’s God Kids will present a Christmas program at 10 a.m. at the fire station with first through third grades presenting “Angels We Have Heard” and fourth through sixth grades presenting “Boughs of Holly.” The Christmas parade will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the dedication of the Christmas tree at Hubbard City Hall with Christmas carols sung by the Community Men’s Choir. Lunch will be served at noon at the Hubbard VFD. Historic Hubbard High School will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the antique doll collection and photo exhibit available for viewing, free to the public. Free horse-drawn wagon tours of the historic homes district will be available. A meal and musical entertainment with Glorybound and Billy Roy Mitcham will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at Historic Hubbard High School. Navarro County Toy Run: Navarro County Toy Run will be held with local bikers leaving at 11 a.m. from the former Kmart parking lot, State Highway 31 and 45th Street. All bikes and clubs are welcome. The riders will enjoy a scenic country ride that will end at the VFW Post 3366, 4609 W. State Highway 31, at about 12:30 p.m. Come for food, drinks, and music provided by Slicky D. Entry fee is one new unwrapped child’s toy or $10 per person. Toys will go to the Corsicana Fire Department for distribution. Cornerstone Baptist Church: Cornerstone Baptist Church, 801 N. 13th St., Corsicana, will have its children’s musical at 11 a.m.

First Baptist Church: First Baptist Church of Wortham will present the children’s Christmas musical, “The Plane Truth About Christmas,” at 6:30 p.m.

First United Methodist Church: First United Methodist Church, 320 N. 15th St., Corsicana, will have its annual plum pudding festival along with a sandwich supper at 6 p.m. Santa Claus will also be making an appearance afterwards.

Kerens Garden Club: Kerens Garden Club will host its annual Christmas home tour from 2 to 5 p.m. featuring the homes of Bill and Amy Kent, 16001 County Road NE3010; Buster and Brenda Atkeisson, 1099 County Road NE3020; Lelia Coffey, 206 S. Humphrey Ave.; and Kelly and Penne Berry, 500 S.W. Second St. The tea will be held at the Kerens Alumni Center on Colket Avenue in downtown Kerens. This year’s theme will be “12 Days of Christmas.” Tickets are $8 and may be purchased from club members. Tickets on the day of the tour will be available at the homes and the alumni center. Westminster Presbyterian Church: The chancel choir of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 312 N. 13th St., Corsicana, will present an advent cantata “The Christmon Tree” at 11 a.m. It will highlight the symbolism and history of the ornaments used for the Christmon tree. The service will also feature a presentation by the youth group and communion will be served.

A meal of soup and chili will be served with money raised going to God’s Helping Hands/Food Pantry. There will be hay rides, photos with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, and a trail of lights. Through the narration of The Ark’s Jerry Turner, the story will unfold in music and drama. “A Child’s Christmas” will bring to mind memories from your childhood when you first experienced the wonder and simplicity of the Savior’s birth.

  • Corsicana Government Center Dance hall appeal before council

    The Corsicana City Council will hear an appeal  of a denied dance hall permit application when it meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
    Council members are scheduled to meet in a work session at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Government Center conference room, before the regular agenda meeting starting at 6 p.m.

    For four teens from Corsicana High School, Tuesday holds a special thrill for them as they compete in the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association’s  ProStart Culinary Competition at Arlington Convention Center.

    When Gander Mountain opened in August of 2004, it did so with an outdoor ATV track, giving potential buyers an avenue, of sorts, to test models out. The last several years, that patch of grass has been barren.
    Not anymore.
