The Navarro County Food Pantry is offering Christmas meals free for pickup from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The Food Pantry is located at 122 W. First Ave.
“Lance Cook is organizing it for First Baptist Church, and they’re going to cook meals for people to pick up and heat, for those in need,” explained Susan Tyner, executive director of the Food Pantry.
The meals will be individually packaged in containers suitable for heating in a microwave or freezing, Tyner said. Larger, family meals are being provided by The Salvation Army.
“The people we want to reach are singles or couples,” Tyner said.
On the menu will be chicken with dressing, sweet potatoes and green beans, Cook said.
“In the last few years we’ve always done it on Christmas day, and we changed that because most people don’t want to get out,” Cook said.
An estimated 300 meals will be prepared for Wednesday pickup.
“They don’t need to call first or a referral, they just need to come in,” Tyner said.
