Free GED, ESL and literacy classes are offered in Corsicana, Ennis, Fairfield, Ferris, Mexia, Midlothian, Red Oak and Waxahachie. Day and evening classes are available. Educational materials will be provided in the classroom. Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County needs volunteers and is also accepting applications for those qualifying for a Habitat home. Navarro Regional Hospital Auxiliary is searching for friendly, compassionate volunteers to serve in various areas of the hospital. Scheduled times and hours and days are flexible. Experience Works wants to serve the community by providing money to low income older workers while they learn new skills. MLK Center board conducts a senior citizen program from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month. Senior citizens are invited to come and be a part. The seniors do chair exercises, play games and make gifts for special occasions or events throughout the year. Corsicana city crews discovered a massive water leak under Forest Lane Friday, resulting in the loss of about one million gallons of water.

Top Ducks
The Mexia chapter of Ducks Unlimited has taken the title of top fundraiser in the state of Texas, surpassing Houston, which was the lead group in 2008. The Mexia Chapter raised in excess of $115,000 in 2009, according to J.E. “Yazoo” Thomas the East Texas Regional Director for Ducks Unlimited.
