Jan. 10

Hat Brand Rodeo to be held at the Navarro County Exposition Center will have bull rides, bareback, saddle bronc, tied downs, calf roping, break-away roping, barrel racing, open team roping, steer wrestling and chute dogging. Jan. 12

Navarro College SBDC will sponsor a basic workshop on how to start a small business from 10 a.m. to noon at the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. 12th St. The workshop will be free. Jan. 13

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Navarro County Relay for Life kickoff meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Corsicana YMCA. All relay committee and team captains need to be present as discussion will include activities leading up to and including the Relay for Life event May 15-16 at the YMCA. Jan. 19

Navarro County NAACP will commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a rally/march/oratory contest. The rally will be held at Bunert Park at 10 a.m. Walter Berringer, assistant principal of Corsicana High School, will be the speaker. Immediately following the rally, the group will march to the MLK Center. The oratory contest will begin at noon. Students in Navarro County will be reciting the “I Have a Dream” speech for first, second and third place prizes. Please join in as King is remembered. For more information, contact E. MLK Day will be celebrated with a citywide candlelight musical beginning at 7 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church. The main focus will be praise and worship ministry singing and praise dancing. The event will be sponsored by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. This year’s general chairman is the Rev. Dairy Johnson Sr., IDMA president and pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
