City enacts voluntary water restrictions

The City of Corsicana has issued a public notice enacting voluntary water restrictions for all of its residential and commercial customers.

Officially, the city is under “mild drought conditions,” and voluntary measures are encouraged to help ease the demand on the city’s water sources.

During the “voluntary” restriction period, consumers are asked to limit the amount of water they consume in their homes and businesses.

In addition to the voluntary measures, the city also asks consumers to limit lawn watering to a rotating five-day schedule based on the last digit of their street address. Any watering should be limited to between the hours of 8 p.m. and 10 a.m., with no landscape watering between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

In its notice, the city suggested several ways to lower water usage, including:

• Use water in a manner that does not allow for runoff or waste.

• Use a bucket, not a spray nozzle, for washing vehicles.

• Running appliances such as washers and dish washers only with a full load.

• Take shorter showers.

• Turn off water faucets when brushing teeth or shaving.

• Installing a “toilet dam” or other water-saving device on a commode.

The city also suggests homeowners investigate using native plants and shrubs in landscaping, which can require less irrigation year-round.
