Early voting to begin Monday
Contested races to be held in five school districts

Early voting in local elections begins Monday, and contested races will be held in five school districts, Navarro College and six cities in Navarro County, according to rosters from Danda Parker, election administrator.
Blooming Grove Independent School District has three seats open on the board of trustees. Six candidates are running, including incumbents Donnie Grounds and Marty Weaver, and challengers Rory Evans, Chris Ivey, Thomas Lawhon, and Jonathan Southard.
In Frost ISD there are two open seats with two incumbents and two challengers: Caleb Martin and Cliff Williams are the incumbents, while Kelli Ritterbach and Jeremy Woods are challengers.
In Kerens ISD two seats are open. Teresa Jennings is the only incumbent, with three challengers, Ray Dube, David Clyde Hubbard and James Inmon.
In Mildred ISD, three open seats are being sought by incumbents Marilyn Mitchell, Randy Thomas and Shannon Wiggins, as well as challengers David Bonner, Tom Raley and Stuart Springer.
Rice ISD also has three seats open, with incumbents Irene Lopez, Steve McCarty and Debbie McElhenney being challenged by Tonya Roberts.
Two seats are open on the Navarro College Board of Trustees, with incumbent A.L. “Buster” Atkeisson seeking reelection to the at-large seat of District 6, challenged by Pat Harper. In District 4, the race is between David E. Taylor and Dick Aldama.
In the City of Corsicana, the mayor’s race will pit incumbent C.L. “Buster” Brown, against challenger Chaston C. Roston, Jr. The other race is for councilman, precinct 4, with Dana Collins and George Walker seeking the seat being vacated by Randy Dill. Walker was previously the councilman in precinct 1. Two other incumbents, Stephen G. Andrews, precinct 3; and Joe Michael Russell, municipal court judge, are unopposed.
In the City of Blooming Grove, there are three at-large council seats open, being sought by incumbent Jeannette Wisdom and challengers Aubrey Fitzgerald, Trevor Boyde, Jeffrey Dyess and Alba “Mickie” Ingram.
In the City of Frost, there are three seats open, and running for those are incumbent Jimmy Hooser and challengers Jerry English, Kevin Freeman and Jean Sanders.
The City of Goodlow has a mayor’s race and a two council seats on the ballot. Running for mayor is incumbent Willie “Butch” Washington, and challenger Nantambu J. Kambon, who was mayor from 2000 to 2002. Frances “June” Bivins is seeking a council seat, and write-ins are encouraged for the other council seat.
Kerens will have a mayoral race pitting Jeffrey Saunders, the current mayor pro-tem, against Tasha Cain and Debbie Lauderdale. The incumbent mayor, Joe Baxter, is not seeking reelection. The two aldermen positions are being sought by two incumbents: Tyrone Martin and Rick Neumayer.
Rice Mayor Larry Bailey is seeking reelection, and is challenged by John Ellington. Two Rice council positions are also open for election with three candidates seeking those seats: incumbents Robby Valdez and Vickie Young, and challenger Stewart D. King.
Early voting will continue through May 5. Election Day is May 9.
