Daily Sun to reduce publication days, change delivery method

By Raymond Linex II, Publisher

To our readers:

Beginning in June, the Corsicana Daily Sun will be delivered weekdays by the U.S Postal Service, and the publication schedule will be reduced to five days. Monday and Saturday editions will be eliminated.

Appropriate measures have been taken to ensure that subscribers will receive same-day delivery, and home delivery rates will drop to $8.75 a month. Sunday will still be delivered by carrier force.

Many newspapers across the country have moved to mail delivery in the last year or so due to the efficiencies it offers. In addition to changing to meet the current economic demands facing many businesses, newspapers also have faced the growing challenge of maintaining its own internal delivery force, as well as higher production and delivery costs.

The Daily Sun is adjusting its business model in order to stay competitive and affordable, like many other newspapers. The paper has not had a home delivery rate increase in more than five years.

The May 25 edition will be the newspaper’s final Monday edition, and the May 30 edition will be the final Saturday edition.

With the exception of those two days, subscribers will still receive the delivery they have come to rely on with the Daily Sun, but it will now arrive in their mailbox. Newspapers at the rack or store will still be available earlier in the day.

Some Daily Sun customers could see this mail conversion sooner, and by June 2, all customers will find their newspaper in the mailbox Tuesday through Friday.

Daily Sun readers will continue to find news and information updates on the newspaper’s online newspaper at www.corsicanadailysun.com seven days a week.

We want to assure you, both our readers and advertisers, that the quality of your community newspaper will not be affected by this change from seven-days-a-week delivery to five days. Our outstanding staff is committed to providing you with information seven days a week via print, five days a week, and online seven days a week.

Please understand we have carefully weighed the options of this move for several months and believe this delivery change is the best way to continue to serve our loyal customers.

We thank you for your support of the No. 1 community information source in Corsicana, and we look forward to continuing our service to you in the days, weeks, months and years ahead. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at rlinex@corsicanadailysun.com or (903) 872-3931.
