Drug trial nets 60-year sentence
A Navarro County jury deliberated an hour and 10 minutes before returning a guilty verdict Thursday on Herman Price Gullatt, Jr., for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, according to District Attorney Lowell Thompson.
Gullatt, 48, was arrested in Kerens with 3.5 grams of methamphetamines and several empty plastic baggies.
District Judge James Lagomarsino sentenced him to 60 years in prison for the felony offense. Gullatt had a prior record, including one prior drug felony and four felony DWIs.
Thompson thanked the jury for their attention during the three and half day presentation of the case.
“The trial had some issues that they paid very close attention to,” he said. “They did a good job and careful deliberation of this case. I’m very pleased with the verdict.”
Gullatt represented himself prior to the actual trial, and Paul Fullbright acted as his counsel during the trial.
