A 7-year-old boy was killed in a car wreck in which at least two others were injured Sunday evening on State Highway 14, half a mile south of FM 641.
Taveon Neal Johnson of Mexia was killed when the pick-up truck he was riding in flipped over around 5 p.m. Sunday evening near Richland.
The south-bound Ford pickup truck had just passed another car and regained the southbound lane when it went sideways, left the road, hit a barbed-wire fence and then a tree before spinning half a turn and then flipping over.
Four of the six occupants were ejected.
“None of them were wearing seatbelts,” said Trooper Chris Williamson of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The passengers and driver were transported to area hospitals, including Hillcrest in Waco and Parkview in Mexia.
Assisting in the scene were Trooper Justin Ferguson, the Corsicana Fire Department, Navarro County Sheriff’s Office, and Volunteer Fire Departments from Richland and Mexia.
The family was returning from a back-to-school shopping trip in Corsicana.
