Corsicana —
The Corsicana Independent School District has made a change to the
leadership of Collins Middle School, naming Darla Nolen the new principal.
The move was made last week, according to Susan Johnson, CISD
spokesperson. Johnson said letters were sent home to parents last week
announcing the change.
Nolen has been principal at Sam Houston Elementary for the past two
years. Kristine Montes, who was the Assistant Principal at Sam Houston
Elementary, was named Acting Principal at Houston to replace Nolen.
“I have confidence in Mrs. Nolen’s proven abilities to lead Collins
Middle School to a bright, successful future” said Dr. Diane Frost,
superintendent of CISD, in a written statement supplied to the Daily
Sun. “Collins Middle School students and staff deserve a leader who will
continue to build momentum on all the good things happening. In
addition, as we are in the process of a bond election, if the bond
passes in May 2013, Mrs. Nolen and her team will play a vital role in
the design and function of the proposed, new 7-8 Middle School.”
Frost sent a letter to parents and students of the school on Feb. 25 informing them of the new campus leadership.
“Change is not always easy,” Frost wrote. “Having the right leadership
to take us through change can make a significant impact on our success...”
Former principal Jose Antunez, who joined the district August of 2012, has moved to an administrative position in the district’s Human Resources department, Johnson said.
Parents and guardians of Collins students are invited to meet with Nolen
in the Collins Middle School library Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., or
from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
