The Knights of Columbus, Council 5211 will host a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on South Highway 22 in Corsicana to benefit the Catholic school. At 6 p.m. a barbecue dinner will be served. Admission costs $50 per player and includes $3,000 in poker chips. Players can buy $3,000 more in chips for an additional $25 donation. Advance tickets cost $45, and may be purchased from any KC Council 5211 member. Prizes, including a 37-inch flat screen TV, will be awarded to the top three players. The Chatfield Tupelo Community Center will hold its annual ice cream social at 6 p.m. Take a break from the heat, and come on out to Chatfield! The Navarro College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will sponsor a seminar on Funding Your Small Business from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Corsicana Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. 12th Street. Attendees will discover the variety of loans available and the process for getting funds guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Information will also be presented that covers what lenders want to see when making a business loan, the myths and realities of grant funding, and alternative lending sources to consider. Christmas in Action, the group that does home repairs for the elderly and needy, has set a Sept. 1 deadline for requests for help. Forms are available through the Corsicana Daily Sun or by calling any of the board members. Priority will go to the elderly, homeowners on fixed incomes, and the disabled, as well as those who contribute to the project financially or who have friends/family willing to help with an individual project. The group will have two work weekends this year, Oct. 16 and 23. Volunteers are currently being sought, as well as teams and team leaders. Woman’s Club House Association is holding the Kinsloe First Sunday Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. September’s soup will be Miami Albondigas, a deliciously flavored, hearty meatball soup, served with Garlic Cumin Breadsticks. The salad will be Tomato and Avocado on a bed of crisp greens with Citrus Lime Vinaigrette. Entrees are Cuban Spice Rubbed Pork Loin Roast with Brown Gravy or Citrus Glazed Baked Salmon Filets with Tropical Fruit Salsa. Either entrée will include Garlic Herb Smashed Red Potatoes, Cumin Scented Sweet Carrot Coins, and Ms. Debra’s Famous Kinsloe House Rolls. Dessert will be Rich Chocolate Torte with garnish of Cinnamon Whipped Cream or Key Lime Tartlets. The price, including tax and gratuity, is $13.00 for adults or $6.00 for children under 12 years old. Angels of Corsicana, 1020 N. Bus. 45, are hosting a U.S. Troop support group and will be gathering items to send in “care-packages” to the soldiers who are from Corsicana and all over the United States. The group will begin meeting at 9 a.m. to begin packing donated items. Everyone who can help will be greatly appreciated. Every year the group makes Christmas stockings and fills them with personal items that soldiers might want and need. Christmas is near and there is a lot of sewing to be done. If you can sew this would be a great way to help our soldiers. If you have items to donate, they can be dropped off at 4 p.m. daily at the American Legion Post 22, located at 632 N. Beaton Street, Corsicana. Postage is very expensive when sending items overseas, so any donations are greatly appreciated. Corsicana FITKAMP is now forming to begin eight weeks of group fitness training to include; eight personalized workouts, nutrition counseling/meal plans, circuit station training, interval training, cardiovascular fitness, hip-hop ABS, and hip-hop turbo kick all taught by certified FITKAMP instructors.
