Corsicana —
The Corsicana City Council will hear an appeal of a denied dance hall permit application when it meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Council members are scheduled to meet in a work session at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Government Center conference room, before the regular agenda meeting starting at 6 p.m.
The appeal case concerns a permit requested by Wayne McAdams and Carla Davis for a dance hall called “Soul Train” at 1228 Roane Road. The Planning and Zoning Commission denied the permit after an objection by Corsicana Police Chief Randy Bratton.
In a memo to the city engineering department, Bratton said that McAdams was “not truthful” in answers he provided about his probation status from a 1999 drug conviction, and cited two ordinances backing up his decision to deny the permit application based on McAdams’ response and current status with the U.S. Probation Office in Dallas.
McAdams and Davis contend they were told there was “no problem” with McAdams’ criminal record and claims his conviction was too long ago to be denied by the ordinance.
The proposed location of the dance hall is at the north end of Bunert Street at the intersection of Roane Road, a primarily industrial area.
Other agenda items for the council to consider Monday include:
• Public hearing on proposed ordinance regulating grease traps, interceptors, separators and holding tanks.
• A contract for the upcoming municipal election on May 12, 2012.
• Consider a Construction Manager at Risk contract for remodeling work at the Government Center.
• Consider suspending the effective date of a rate increase filing by Atmos Energy Corporation.
A public forum time is scheduled at the beginning of each council meeting for members of the public wishing to address the council. Supporters calling for a bond election to fund a new animal shelter in Corsicana are expected to appear during the public forum time Tuesday.
