Winner speaks out for CASA

From Staff Reports

Mrs. Texas International, Bonnie Hubert, is partnering with Texas CASA during her reign to promote CASA (Court appointed special advocates) and recruit CASA volunteers. As the crisis counselor for Montgomery ISD, Bonnie has seen first hand the needs of abused and neglected children and the difference that CASA can make. She and her husband have been very involved with CASA of Montgomery County and they decided as a family (with their three small children) to compete for Mrs. Texas in order to promote CASA.

CASA volunteers advocate locally for Navarro County children in foster care. They get to know the child and speak to everyone involved in the child’s life, including their family members, teachers, doctors, lawyers, social workers, and others.

The information they gather and their recommendations help the court make informed decisions. CASA volunteers commit to a child until the case is closed and the child is in a safe, permanent home. Help make a difference in the world, help a child.

For more information about CASA, or to find out how you can be a CASA supporter or volunteer, contact Vicki Scoggins at (903) 872-3772 or on the Internet visit www.becomeacasa.org.
