Navarro Regional Hospital is hosting a blood drive on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3201 W. Highway 22 in the classrooms. Carter BloodCare is offering blood donors the chance to cool off this summer with a pint of Blue Bell ice cream. July 12-15, 17, 19-21

The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will present “The Boys Next Door” beginning Thursday, July 12.  The opening night includes an after-the-show  reception immediately following the performance. An Off-Broadway success, this very funny and equally touching play focuses on the lives of four mentally-challenged men who live together in a group home. Filled with humor, the play is also marked by the compassion and understanding with which it peers into the lives of its handicapped protagonists. Tom Griffin’s play is as relevant today as it was when it was written in 1986. Other performances will be July 13-15, 17, 19-21. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee on July 15 begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Warehouse Living Arts Center which is located at 119 West 6th Avenue across from the post office.   For reserved seating and ticket info, please call the box office at (903 )872-5421. Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle will hold it’s Pot Luck from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the hospital classrooms. Bring a dish and a friend and join for pot luck. Coyote Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force meets at the Tucker Hardgrave Memorial Hangar at the south end of C. David Campbell Field, the Corsicana Municipal Airport.  There will be a staff meeting at 10 a.m. with the general meeting to follow.  Bill Westell is in charge of the program this month.  Prospective members and the public are invited to attend the general meeting.



Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 9 a.m. at the Angel Room located at 1020 N. Bus. 45. All ages are welcome to come pack. Angels of Corsicana troop support is in need of donations to help fill boxes. Big C Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. at Martins Music Hall, 201 S. Beaton. Memorial Observance for Isaac Newton Brown will be held at 10 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery at his grave site. On July 15, 1863 Captain Isaac Newton Brown commanded the ironclad CSS Arkansas in a daring and successful attack on the federal naval vessels in Vicksburg. He died in, and is buried in Corsicana. You are hereby invited by the R.E. Lee Bivouac, Order of Confederate Gray, to join us in this observance. Refreshments to be served afterwards.

The Blooming Grove Pee Wee Football Association will have it annual meeting and first sign ups at 4 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend, in order to make this a successful football season.

Gospel Jubilee will be held at Martins Music Hall, 102 S. Beaton at 7 p.m. Gospel Jubilee is the fourth Saturday night of each month. Doors open at 6 p.m., and admission is $10 per person. Special guest for this performance is the Eternal River Band, as well as Shelly Buckley, Danielle Pillans, and Carolyn Cobb. They are joined by the Heavenly Highways Band, Elias Lowe, Gary Poe and Ricky Woodall.



The VFW Post 3366 will have a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Ballroom. The Spur City Rounders will be providing your favorite country sounds. Band plays from 8 to 12 and admission is free. Donations are always appreciated to help pay the band. Remember, there is a dance on the last Saturday of each month. All are welcome.

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle will host an AARP Drivers Safety refresher course designed for drivers 50-plus and up, but is open to anyone. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees may qualify for a reduction in automobile insurance premiums for three years upon completion of the course. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West 7th Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

    When it comes to red carpet fashion, comedienne Joan Rivers is one of the more well-known, self-appointed authorities, and she had plenty to say during Thursday’s  9th Annual VOICE, Inc., Spring Luncheon and Style Show.
    More than 100 people attended the annual fundraising event at the Cook Center, which featured local models showing off fashions from area retailers while the show’s emcee, Ellie Weingardt, delivered witty commentary as a Rivers impersonator.

  • Grand Jury: Houston area rapper indicted locally on drug charges

     A multi-platinum selling rap artist from Houston was indicted Thursday by the Navarro County Grand Jury during its May panel. Wesley Eric Weston, known professionally as “Lil’ Flip,” was indicted on charges of possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams. Weston and another man, Dematrius Delane Richardson, were arrested by DPS troopers Oct. 18, 2012

    AUSTIN — The Texas State Fire Marshal's Office says a federal safety panel's investigators had access to the site of the West fertilizer plant blast that killed 15 people and injured about 200 others.

    HOUSTON — New estimates show Texas has eight of the nation's 15 fastest-growing cities. Estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau show San Marcos in Central Texas led the way with a nearly 5 percent population boom between July 2011 and July 2012. That's the highest rate among U.S. cities with at least 50,000 people.

    It took less than two days for Texas country musicians Scott Brown and Josh Ward to find themselves stopping in Corsicana on their way to Moore with three trailers full of relief supplies for the victims of the storm.
