Drane Intermediate School’s Science Department held its second annual Science Fair. Twenty-one students will be advancing to the Central Texas Science and Engineering Fair in Waco on February 26 and 27.
“I am amazed at the talent of these sixth graders, and our teachers who encouraged such insightful experiments. These students will do well at the next level in the competition. I am very proud of our Drane students and faculty,” said Adan Casas, principal of Drane Intermediate School.
Overall Winner: Garrin Fraze – How Many Fingers?
Fraze built a multi-touch surface that when connected to a computer, with the correct software, could test how many fingers the computer would respond to the best.
Superintendent’s Award: Cameron Castles – A Salty Situation (picture attached)
Castles experiment determined if adding salt to a comet goldfish’s tank would negatively or positively affect the fishes’ growth rate.
Principal’s Award: Cole Curlee-Young – Foreign Fingers (picture attached)
Cole’s project was designed to test if people could type in French and German at the same speed as they do their native language (English).
