Scammers offering newspaper subscriptions

Corsicana —

Corsicana residents are being targeted by scammers claiming to represent the Corsicana Daily Sun and offering subscriptions in exchange for credit card numbers.

The crooks are promising that the money goes to animal charities, or that residents can get a year’s subscription for $40 or $25 if they’ll only share their credit card information.

The Corsicana Daily Sun is offering a half-price subscription special for $1 a week. However, residents concerned about sales calls may confirm legitimacy with the Corsicana Daily Sun by calling the office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at (903) 872-3931 before surrendering any personal information.

“We never pressure anyone into giving their credit card numbers over the telephone,” said David Smith, circulation manager.
