UPDATE - Kerens ISD to close High School Thursday, Friday
Kerens High School closes due to illness
Classes at Kerens High School continued throughout Wednesday, but the campus will be closed Thursday and Friday due to illness, said Kevin Stanford, Kerens Independent School District superintendent. Staff development day is scheduled for Monday, so students will not return to campus until Tuesday.
This completes the district-wide shutdown as Kerens Elementary and Kerens Middle schools had already closed for the week because of low attendance due to sickness.
“Thursday and Friday will not be made up as we’re using them as bad weather days,” Stanford said. “If we do have illness later in the year or bad weather, we’ll apply for a waiver.”
The Kerens High School Band will continue its travel plans to Waco LaVega High School for UIL competition Wednesday evening. Junior high and junior varsity events have been canceled for the week; however, varsity volleyball and football will be played.
