Navarro County had 20 to 25 roads closed because of high water Monday morning, according to Eric Meyers, emergency management coordinator.
“Most of our flooded roadways have subsided substantially,” Meyers said Monday afternoon.
The county had gotten an average of two to two and a half inches of rain between Sunday and Monday, and that created drainage problems throughout the area, but particularly in Corsicana.
“Right now, there’s water standing everywhere, but we’ve been pretty fortunate we’ve not had these three to four inch downpours,” said Corsicana Fire Chief Donald McMullan. “It’s a fairly gentle steady rain, so it’s running off, but there’s a lot of standing water.”
The rain is expected to break on Tuesday and start up again on Wednesday as another front moves through the area, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast calls for thunderstorms Wednesday night, again Thursday night and a 50 percent chance of more rain and storms on Friday.
As of Monday, there were no emergency calls for rescues, nor any reports of flooded houses, although Meyers said those could still be developing.
“Obviously, any additional rainfall puts us at risk of flooding and flash flooding,” he said.
McMullan said that the one-day break will help the run-off situation in creeks and streets.
“So long as it gives us a break once in a while we’ll hold our own,” McMullan said.
