Seasonal fun is scheduled throughout the area with both Halloween and fall events featured.
The library’s regular story-time at 10 a.m. Friday will feature a costumed Interim Library Director Chad Freeze reading a Halloween story, with candy given out both Friday and Saturday during regular library hours.
Most Halloween events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, with the largest being the annual Downtown Trick or Treat from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday in downtown Corsicana.
Local civic clubs and businesses are participating, with candy being given away at various stores to a kiddie Haunted House at the Art Spot, costume photos in the pocket park, and a costume contest at Card & Party Factory.
The Navarro County Humane Society is sponsoring a pet parade, while the Rotary Club is serving lemonade, and the Children’s Creative Center is offering temporary tattoos and safety tips. V.O.I.C.E. will have its annual Family Fall Festival in the parking lot of the Bank of America with hot dogs and prizes.
“At 2:30 p.m. kicks off the V.O.I.C.E. Family Fall Festival in the Bank of America parking lot,” explained Malinda Sharpley, Main Street Director for the City of Corsicana. “The costume pictures in the pocket park will start at 3 p.m. and Parks and Recreation will be there with music and games.”
At 4:30 p.m., the parks department and Corsicana Police Department will be giving away about 30 bicycles to children at the street party. The bikes were from the unclaimed department of the police department, and have been refurbished for the event.
On Friday evening, Navarro College’s Cook Center planetarium will once again be transformed into a virtual haunted house complete with ghosts and monsters. Full of scary special effects, this Halloween program will be shown every 30 minutes starting at 5:30 p.m., with the last show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $1 per person.
In conjunction with the planetarium show, the Leo Club will host a Halloween Carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. with face painting, games and fun. A kid’s costume contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. The age categories for the contest are infant to two; three to five, and six to eight. A Halloween Hayride will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Some of the proceeds from the events will go to the Navarro College Leo Club, a branch of the Lions Club.
A host of local churches are also celebrating the season with family events ranging from candy give-aways to craft and bake sales, to Calvary Worship’s Fall festival, which includes games for big kids, such as a zipline, super trampoline, mechanical bull and climbing wall.
A pumpkin patch is on-going at Landmark Baptist Church through the first week of November. The patch is open from noon to dark Monday through Fridays and 9 a.m. to dark on Saturdays, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Groups who wish to have stories in the patch may call the church to schedule at (903) 874-0777. The church is located on West Highway 31, next to Star Hall.
