PUSH group holds first meeting

A group of citizens hoping to help preserve jobs and help Corsicana be perceived as “business friendly” held its first meeting Monday at the Corsicana Public Library.

The group, headed up by Vicky Prater, Ann Massey and Dennis Thornberg invited business owners, managers, and citizens from throughout the county to participate in the group. About two dozen people gathered for the group’s first meeting.

Much of the discussion at Monday’s first meeting centered on Corsicana city government policies and practices. Some of the group felt the city could do more to help attract business and industry by improving the way it operates and manages the city budget.

“Our goal is to identify why Corsicana has been left behind,” said Prater at the outset of the meeting, adding it was the intent of the group to provide positive input to city officials and to avoid personal attacks on anyone.

Thornberg talked about the City of Tyler and that town’s “Blueprint” for financial success. He said the city had reduced property taxes and paid off all its debt using the principals of the plan.

The group is scheduled to hold its next meeting at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, at the Corsicana Public Library.
