Kohl’s has a goal this year to finish first. During tough economic conditions the company has set a goal to continue to prove it is a value oriented retailer, win customer loyalty and be number one.
It is that same competitive spirit that drove the Kohl’s Corsicana Distribution Center and Call Center associates to raise $33,327.15 for the United Way, making Kohl’s the number one campaign contributor in Navarro County this year.
Kohl’s associates and representatives of United Way of Navarro County gathered Wednesday at the facility for a check presentation ceremony, the first of several planned as United Way of Navarro County continues its 2010 campaign drive.
“United Way is so proud of what the employees of Kohl's have been able to accomplish this campaign year,” said Ellen Block, executive director of United Way of Navarro County. “Despite the challenges of today's economy, they refused to be deterred and, not only met their last year’s contribution, but exceeded it by another $12,000.”
So, how did Kohl’s do it? They started early and held a variety of events to ensure they had a successful campaign. Several silent auctions organized by Operations Supervisor, Sylvia Hatten raised the majority of the funds. A carnival sponsored by Call Center associates was well attended. Events such as a luncheon, spin-a-wheel, candy grams, T-shirt sales, root beer floats, ice cream sundaes, and concession sales also contributed to the fundraising. Associate payroll deductions and cash contributions accounted for $9,182, and matching funds from Kohl’s corporate office raised an additional $6,664.23.
“Kohl’s’ support of the United Way is astounding,” said Susan Bruce, president of United Way of Navarro County. “When we did the original United Way presentation and mentioned that H-E-B had raised more than $28,000, one brave individual suggested Kohl's raise $30,000. Two months later, Kohl’s reports almost $33,000.
“The Kohl’s family has helped countless families in Navarro County with their unselfish giving,” Bruce added.
“The needs of our community and demand for services are greater than ever this year,” said Block. “We applaud Kohl’s for their innovation and creativity in achieving such an outstanding commitment to our goal. We are grateful for their continued support.”
To date, United Way of Navarro County has raised about two-thirds of its 2010 goal of $375,000. For more information on how to donate to United Way of Navarro County, visit their Web site at www.unitedwayofnavarrocounty.org.
