Foundations step up to help fund city pools, Senior center
Corsicana's two city-owned swimming pools will be open next summer.
That is thanks to the help of two private foundations that are providing funding for the pools, and for the city operated Senior Citizens Center.
Funding for the summertime operation of the two pools, and a reduction in staffing at the Senior Citizens Center, was eliminated from the city budget as part of cost-saving measures enacted by the city council.
The donations from the two private foundations will allow at least partial restoration of the cuts, said Connie Standridge, Corsicana city manager.
Scheduling plans for the summer pool operation are still being finalized, Standridge said, and may include a reduction from last year's operating hours.
But, the pools will be open for summertime recreation at both Jester Park and Bunert Park, something the city couldn't guarantee when it passed its budget this year.
