Byrne to speak at Tuesday’s DBSA meeting
From Staff Reports
Madeleine Byrne, Ph.D., clinic director with ADAPT of Texas, will be the guest speaker at the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting will be held in the downstairs fellowship hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. 14th St., Corsicana. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with a free literature table and refreshments.
Byrne’s topic will be “It Takes a Village.” She will address current and historical perspectives on managing the symptoms of one’s mood disorder. She will discuss what we have learned that better helps people who live with mental health issues.
Byrne has practiced as a clinical social worker since 1984, primarily specializing in trauma resolution, treatment of sexual offenders and providing counseling services in various medical settings. She completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 2009, having published her dissertation on secondary traumatization. She recently left her position with the Texas Youth Commission where she managed the treatment program for emotionally disturbed juvenile delinquents. She works from a dynamic perspective, seeing the client as a whole person who is shaped by every experience and relationship. She continues to volunteer with at risk youth and serves as choir director at her church.
Her educational presentation will address the necessary supports to maintain emotional wellness. A question-and-answer session will follow her talk. All are invited to attend this special event.
