Pactiv steps up for United Way

From Staff Reports

The needs are great, and local industry is stepping up the plate for United Way of Navarro County.

The Pactiv Corsicana Foodservice plant proudly announced that it raised $5,882 in employee donations for this year’s United Way fundraising campaign. That’s over three times the amount the plant raised last year, and handily exceeded the site’s goal of $5,000 in United Way giving.

Pactiv kicked off its campaign in mid-October via an internal e-mail, and by posting United Way information throughout the facility to raise awareness. They then coordinated with Mike Fletcher from H.E.B. Food Store to have him as a guest speaker at each one of the four employee meetings held the week of October 19. Fletcher shared his positive experiences working with the United Way and the many local agencies that are directly supported by United Way donations. Employees also viewed the 2010 United Way of Navarro County fund raising video and filled out pledge cards for the campaign effort.

Pactiv’s local plant management agreed to sponsor several raffle gifts in order to increase employee interest and excitement for this year’s campaign. The grand prize was a notebook computer, which anyone contributing $5 per pay period or more was eligible to win. Three other raffles for Dallas Cowboy “Party Passes” (two tickets each) were offered for anyone contributing at least $1 per pay period.

"The employees of Pactiv have provided another wonderful example of how we can ‘Live United’ and, collectively, work together to improve the common good,” said Ellen Block, executive director of United Way of Navarro county. “Their hard efforts and generous contribution will have a positive impact on the lives of many of their fellow citizens. We appreciate all that they have done to help us reach our goal.”

Pactiv Corporation has also pledged to donate $3,000 to several local charities, including the United Way and YMCA to name a few.

“We couldn’t be more proud in the generosity of our Company and its most important assets — our employees,” the company said in a press release about the United Way campaign efforts. “We truly do Live United during these difficult economic times.”
