City closer to new logo, motto
Finalists have been chosen and being shown to small groups

The Strategic Planning Group is getting closer to a new logo and motto for the City of Corsicana, but they aren’t ready to let the cat out of the bag just yet.
“We don’t want this taking on a life of its own and taking off until we know what we’ve got, good or bad,” Steed explained.
Three logo finalists have been chosen, and they are being shown to small groups this week to gauge interest. In the end, it won’t be a popularity contest, but a decision by the Corsicana Development Commission and the SPG, according to Frank Steed, co-chair of the SPG. The CDC is a division of the Chamber of Commerce, and the SPG is an independent board seeking to improve Corsicana and attract businesses and residents to the area.
The next group to review the three options will be the Chamber of Commerce.
The chosen logo and motto will be unveiled before the end of the year, and a soft roll-out is scheduled for January.
The CDC and SPG hired a marketing company called Hck2 Partners to develop a brand and message for Corsicana and Navarro County for promoting tourism. The money to pay for the company came from the taxes paid on hotel and motel rooms by tourists. That hotel/motel tax money is strictly limited to historical preservation and things that promote tourism.
In addition to the logos, the SPG also discussed a new welding certification partnership being hammered out between the high school and college, and heard the survey results from a recent fishing tournament.
An emphasis was put on the efforts to clean up entranceways to the city, particularly of litter. Efforts are underway to kickstart the Adopt-A-Highway program here to help with litter control.
Improving the appearance of the city’s entranceways was the reason for the creation of the SPG, Dan Wilkie reminded the group. Back in 2007, the city got a poor rating on appearance from a retail recruiter who advised new businesses would not want to build in a dirty-looking town. Since then, the SPG has formed to work on various aspects of community improvement.
