Dec. 1

Corsicana Chapter No. 118, Order of Eastern Star, will hold a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Corsicana Masonic Lodge. A potluck supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. All area OES members are invited For more information, call Bonnie Mathison at (903) 874-0226.



Oak Valley Crime Watch will have its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Valley Community Center. The crime report will be given by the deputies. Bring a dish and join in food and fellowship as 2009 is closed out.

Dec. 2

Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church. The annual Christmas party will follow the election of officers and final plans for the Christmas project. The public is invited to bring a dish of your favorite Christmas goodies and enjoy the fellowship.



Dec. 3

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the home of Jean Hinkle, 404 S. Hinckley, Blooming Grove. For more information, call (903) 695-2622.



Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3366, located at Veterans Drive off West State Highway 31, will have its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. of all members in good standing. Come out and support your post and get involved. For more information, call after 4 p.m. to (903) 872-3811.



Dec. 4

Chatfield-Tupelo Community Center will have its annual Christmas party at 6 p.m. at the community center. Please bring a covered dish and a wrapped gift for the gift exchange.



Dec. 5

American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will have meetings as scheduled. Executive committee will meet at 1 p.m. Legionnaires will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sons of American Legion will meet at 3 p.m. Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 4 p.m. To attend the meetings, membership must be current. Angels of Corsicana, a troop support group, will meet at 9 a.m. at 1020 N. Business 45. This will be the last packing for the troops before Christmas. Everyone is needed and welcome. Any donations can be brought to the above address at the meeting or you can drop them off at the American Legion Post, 632 N. Beaton St., after 2 p.m. daily. Locally produced items of all tastes, textures, shapes and sizes will be offered at a winter farmer-rancher market in downtown Corsicana from 8 a.m. to noon. Expect to find fall and winter crops, ranch and dairy products, baked goods and homestead arts, all under one roof at Howard’s Paint and Body, 311 N. Main St. Prospective vendors should contact Jackie King at (903) 229-7505.



Firefighters from across Navarro County will hold a “fill the boot” fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help with the expenses of one of their own, Chad Marshall, as he undergoes treatment for a serious illness. Marshall is employed with East Texas EMS in Ennis and is a volunteer firefighter with the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department. His service to others, in both professional and volunteer life, has earned him the respect and gratitude of all who know him. He was named the 2009 Firefighter of the Year by the Navarro County Firefighters’ Association. Dec. 7

City of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly city council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce St.



Dec. 8

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

The monthly American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Shriner’s Building, 323 N. Commerce St. The drive is normally held the first Thursday in the month, but it has been changed to the second Thursday of the month for December only. Donors must be at least 17 years of age and have a valid picture ID. Members of the Navarro Christian Homeschool Red Cross Club will be accepting donations of new teddy bears, which will be given to the Navarro County American Red Cross Disaster Action Teams for distribution to local disaster victims. Bears may also be dropped of at the local Red Cross office, 701 W. Second Ave., until 5 p.m.

Visiting members from various lodges as well as officers of the Grand Lodge I.O.O.F. of Texas will be present. Lodge will open at 8 a.m. for early arrivals. Lodge will open at 9 a.m. and the degree work will start at 10 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Completion of the degree work will again start at 1 p.m. and should conclude by 3:30 p.m. The lodge has sponsored “Founders Day” rallies honoring Thomas Wildey, founder of the I.O.O.F. on the North American continent, for the eighth year.
