Santa’s helpers ready to ride in annual Toy Run

By Deanna Brown

Daily Sun

Months of planning and preparation will come to fruition Saturday when the Toy Run kicks off at 11 a.m. near the former Goody’s store at College Park Mall.

“All bikes, cars and clubs are welcome,” said Marty Stephenson, co-coordinator. “Personal vehicles are welcome, too.”

Toys collected at the event will be picked up by the Corsicana Fire Department, to aid with its toy drive. All toys collected will be donated to The Salvation Army.

Clubs organizing the event include Wind & Fire Motorcycle Club, Firehouse Bikers Chapter 164; Wind & Fire Motorcycle Club, Los Bomberos Chapter 146; Blue Knights International Motorcycle Texas 43, Corsicana Chapter; Honor Bounds Motorcycle Ministry; Circuit Riders Motorcycle Ministry; Los Poderosos Motorcycle Club; and Shakers & Scrapers Car Club. 106.9 The Ranch will provide the Wesley Pruitt Band from Canton.

Be sure to get there early if you desire a place in line for the ride. The ride is to depart from College Park Mall at 11 a.m. By noon, riders should arrive at the VFW on Veterans Drive, just off West State Highway 31, where admission is a new, unwrapped toy, or $10 at the door.

“At that time, people will have their hand stamped and receive a ticket for the door prizes that will be drawn during the Toy Run and at the dance that evening,” Stephenson said. “If they are stamped and have paid an admission or brought a toy for the afternoon event, they will not have to pay to get in the dance that evening.”

There will be a break in the activities from 3 to 8 p.m. to allow Shakers & Scrapers Car Cl3ub (and anyone else) to participate in the downtown Christmas parade that evening.

“People can go to the Christmas parade and Festival of Lights, then come back that evening for the big dance and auction,” she said.

There will be a chili lunch, auction, 50/50 drawing and lots of door prizes. Another live auction and a silent auction will take place that evening.

“Each year this event grows,” said Becky Chandler, co-coordinator. “We appreciate the support of the clubs, sponsors and individuals who take the time out to bless those in need.”
