Firefighters from across Navarro County will hold a “fill the boot” fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help with the expenses of one of their own, Chad Marshall, as he undergoes treatment for a serious illness. Marshall is employed with East Texas EMS in Ennis and is a volunteer firefighter with the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department. His service to others, in both professional and volunteer life, has earned him the respect and gratitude of all who know him. He was named the 2009 Firefighter of the Year by the Navarro County Firefighters’ Association. City of Corsicana municipal court jury panel does not need to report for jury duty.
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

The monthly American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Shriner’s Building, 323 N. Commerce St. The drive is normally held the first Thursday in the month, but it has been changed to the second Thursday of the month for December only. Donors must be at least 17 years of age and have a valid picture ID. Members of the Navarro Christian Homeschool Red Cross Club will be accepting donations of new teddy bears, which will be given to the Navarro County American Red Cross Disaster Action Teams for distribution to local disaster victims.
