Moving forward

Concrete pouring scheduled for Thursday

The work on the Seventh Avenue project is moving along steadily, and concrete pouring is scheduled for this week, according to Darwin Myers, area engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation.

The concrete paving for the next step, which will be from 20th to 24th streets, will start at 8 p.m. Thursday night, weather permitting.

Traffic could be more congested than normal to allow the concrete trucks access.

The job to improve drainage along Texas Highway 31 where it cuts through the heart of Corsicana began July 22, 2011. The first phase involved some enormous storm drains to be built underneath the roadway, and took nearly a year. The current phase is working on the center of the road, and then the lanes will be shifted to allow for more concrete work until all four lanes are improved. This portion should be completed by May 2013.

The next and final phase will be from 15th Street back towards downtown. “It still goes to the east from the CVS all the way to Main Street,” Myers said.

An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
