Eden Creek Farm
Eden Creek Farm in Blooming Grove is offering organic 2010 Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). CSA is for community members who invest in the local farm’s production of fresh, seasonal, organic, chemical-free fruit, vegetables, herbs and nuts.
As an Eden Creek Farm CSA member you will receive 26 weekly shares of produce picked up each Thursday at the farm starting on April 1 and running through Sept. 23, 2010.
The volume and variety of produce will vary with season, weather and pest problems. You will receive six to 12 different fruits, vegetables, herbs and nuts weekly.
Steve and Kristine Orth have combined their talents and expertise and started growing organic produce, including fruits, vegetables, herbs and nuts. They have now expanded the operations to the raising of livestock, including horses, rabbits, chickens and turkeys.
Steve is a sociologist/anthropologist from Texas A&M; and a certified master gardener, specializing in organic edible landscape design.
Kristine is a licensed racehorse trainer, breeder and certified equine chiropractor.
Eden Creek Farm practices sustainable farming methods, including using livestock manures, crop rotation and cover crops to improve the land.
Harmful chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers are never used on the farm. The future expansion of the farm includes the establishment of several greenhouses, a vineyard and winery.

The 4th Edition of the Texas H.O.T. Jobs website (Health Opportunities in Texas) was recently unveiled. This exciting resource (www.texashotjobs.org) offers numerous interactive features and is the premier site for information and pathways into healthcare careers in Texas. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field of health care is the fastest growing industry in our nation. Six of the 30 occupations with the largest employment growth for 2008-2018 are projected to be in the field of healthcare, which is more than any other industry.
The Texas H.O.T. Jobs website goes hand-in-hand with, as well as expands upon, the print version. There are three target audiences for the website including educators, students, and parents with a section focused on each. Information on 90 different healthcare careers and a parent section are now available in Spanish on the website. It also provides a number of additional features itself. One feature allows you to read about what current healthcare professionals have to say about their particular career- from why they chose it to a description of their present career – an average work day, setting they work in, strengths needed, best part of job, and advice regarding their particular career. Individuals who are interested in a career in healthcare can benefit greatly from the career interest inventory, which matches a person’s needs with the career that best fits them based on six personality types including realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, or conventional.
Perhaps the most exciting feature is the career explorer section, which allows users to explore health care careers via 15 different interactive modules. These modules utilize health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease, combined with video clips of health care professionals interacting with patients in health care settings. Brazos AHEC is a non-profit organization located in Waco. Its mission is to improve the health of communities in Central Texas by developing a quality health workforce and helping address unmet health needs.
