Corsicana —
It’s officially fall when the pumpkins are popping up all over, and Corsicana has plenty of the orange globes to go around.
The Main Street Office is selling pumpkins again this year of all shapes and sizes, with prices ranging from 50 cents to $45.
The “pumpkin patch” runs through Oct. 31, but this weekend will be “Pumpkin Palooza!” with bounce house, fire truck, decorating demonstrations, barrel train, face painting, story time and more from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Visitor’s Center, at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Beaton Street.
Volunteers are manning the patch, and all proceeds from the patch go towards bench replacements downtown. If there’s enough money, this year’s proceeds may also go towards purchasing some of the antique-looking street lamps that have been discussed at various meetings.
Helping ensure there is an ample supply of the festive holiday item, Jimmy Prince of Prince Fireworks out on Highway 22 is also selling pumpkins again, for the third year.
“I’ve already gotten my second load,” he said Wednesday. “I’m shrinking my pile almost daily.”
Seeking to add some non-firework seasonal sales, Prince began selling Christmas trees and one of his customers asked him to start selling pumpkins, too. Prince’s pumpkins range in price from $1 to $11.
Prince is also adding rose bushes and mums to his fall line-up. “Last spring, I sold 250 two-gallon roses,” he said.
