A community health and safety fair will be held on Friday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m at the Navarro County Courthouse.
A variety of agencies will be on hand to provide information to help motivate participants toward positive behavior changes related to personal health and safety. The fair is being held in conjunction with the Navarro Healthy County program and everyone in the community is invited to attend.
The event should provide an opportunity to increase health awareness and disease prevention for participants by providing health screenings, educational information and related activities. Additional information will include disaster preparedness education, local, state, and national health services and resources, self-care practices, and motivation for participants to make positive health behavior changes.
Participating agencies will include Heritage Oaks West, Advocare, Multi Plex Healthcare, Means Chiropractic, BCM Innovative Therapies, Navarro Regional Hospital, Gardendale Home Health and Hospice, Enviva Health Services, Heritage Oaks, Country Meadows, Twilight Home, YMCA, Navarro College, Bryder Chiropractic, Family Care of Texas, Bethany Home Health, HEB Pharmacy, Chilis, Anytime Fitness, Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice, PHI and more. HEB pharmacy will provide flu shots for $25 per person.

City grants tax abatements
The Corsicana City Council granted tax abatements to Guardian Industries and the proposed water park when the group met in regular session Tuesday. Both companies will be given 50 percent abatements for 10 years, and both are proposing sizable investments and the creation of dozens of new jobs.

Former Kerens VFD treasurer arrested for theft
The loss of $2,900 from the Kerens Volunteer Fire Department in May has led to the arrest of the group’s treasurer, Kaell Mullen.
Mullen has been charged with theft of more than $1,500 and less than $20,000 by a public servant, a third-degree felony. -
Workshops to be held to review restoration bids
There are three contractor proposals to consider for the proposed restoration of the Navarro County Courthouse, but a decision on the next step in the project is still likely a few weeks away.
Commissioners opened the proposals for the restoration project shortly after the 2 p.m. deadline Tuesday, along with proposals for asbestos abatement in conjunction with the project. -
