Healthy Woman is back at Navarro Regional Hospital's Cafe 22 for an evening with Dr. Rebecca Guinn, OB/GYN from  5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Dr. Guinn will be discussing methods of contraception and family planning, as well as other reasons for using contraception.   The Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. 3rd Street (1 blk W of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the fried chicken or sweet treats and wear your best smile. The groups main purpose is to discuss issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available to senior citizens and veterans.

Sept. 29

VFW Post 3366 will have its Saturday night dance in the ballroom of the VFW Post from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight. Spur City Rounders will be playing all your favorite dance songs. Admission is free but donations will be accepted to help pay the cost of the band.



The Mildred Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fundraiser at 5 p.m. with a fish fry, and live band at 7 p.m. There will also be a silent auction and raffle, and the entertainment will be provided by Ira Bradford and Bustin’ Loose. The 32nd Annual Piecemakers’ Quilt Show will take place at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W. Sixth Ave. Admission is free. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. A quilt will be raffled off as part of the annual show. Oct. 2

The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Oak Valley Crime Watch will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Valley Community Center. If you bring a friend your name will go in to a drawing for door prize. The Sunbeam Club will celebrate autumn with food, fun and fellowship at the Ennis IHOP. The whistle will blow at 11:30 a.m. for retired and working railroaders and any family members. Anyone who loves a train is also welcomed to join in this fellowship.

Frost Community Center's Covered Dish Lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month.  Bring your favorite dish to share and enjoy the company of your neighbors in our community and surrounding areas.  All are welcome.



Kinsloe House presents its Fall Fashion Show, which is a highlight of each year. Local shops participating this year in the style show are Canterbury Court, Cassady’s, and Uniquely Yours. Carol Langham is chairman of this committee and committee members are Marsha Banks, Elonda Cassady, Pam Dunn, Carolyn French, Lynda Green, Jera O’Neal, Ruth Scott, Jo Skews and Arlene Stewart. Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Eureka United Methodist Church. Please bring the cookies you have baked for the KAIROS Ministry to the meeting. Special guest will be Becky Burns, superintendent of Mildred ISD. Join your friends and neighbors for this informative meeting and enjoy the fellowship that follows. Refreshments will be served.

The Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. District attorney Lowell Thompson will be the speaker. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.

The Blooming Grove Historical Society will have a garage sale in the building across the street from the museum.  Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.



Oct. 5

Cars of Navarro County will host “Hot Rods at O’Reilly’s” from 7 to 9 p.m. Located at 709 W. Seventh Ave., if you have cars, bikes, trucks, 4x4, project vehicles, hot rods, muscle cars, rat rods, whatever -- bring it. There will be music and awards. Come and go and have a great time.

Eureka United Methodist Church, 8644 S. Hwy 287, will hold its Lord’s Acre celebration Oct. 6. Barbecue dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal will consist of brisket, pinto beans,  potato salad, bread, pickles, onions and homemade pies with coffee or tea. Adult meals are $8, children age 3 and under are free. The country kitchen will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, 4 to 7 p.m., and the auction will be at 7:30 p.m. The drawing for the quilt will be held during the auction. Oct. 8

The Republican Party Of Navarro County will hold its next Executive Committee Meeting on Monday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Republican Headquarters, 111-B West Third Avenue, in downtown Corsicana. State Sen. Brian Birdwell and U.S. Rep. Joe Barton will be the guest speakers. The purpose of the meeting is to unify the local party behind our Republican candidates and to push the Get-Out-The-Vote effort for the Nov. 6 General Election. A social time from 6:30 to 7 p.m. will be held, saluting elected officials, hosted by the Navarro County Republican Women. All registered voters are welcome to attend. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Oct. 12-14

Pelham Community Homecoming will celebrate its 55th annual Oct. 12-14. Friday night, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. will be a worship service with Rev. Charles Kelly as the master of ceremonies at the Wesley United Methodist Church, and Rev. Earnest Sample Sr. of West as speaker. On Saturday, Oct. 13, from 2 to 6 p.m. will be Pelham “Fun and Frolic.” Family and friends will enjoy activities at the Pelham Community History Museum. Bring your lawn chairs, Museum will be open for tours. The celebration will culminate on Sunday with homecoming worship services at 10:45 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Rev. Elgin Taylor, President Emeritus of Christians in Action International of Dallas speaking. Dinner will be served following services at the Pelham Community Center.



Oct. 13

Taste of Home tickets are now available at the Corsicana Daily Sun. This special event will be held at the Corsicana High School auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. Food, fun and prizes begins at 1 p.m. with a variety of vendor booths and the cooking show begins at 4:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $35 each and includes a special meet and greet before the show with culinary specialist Jamie Dunn. Reserved seating tickets are $20 and general admission are $12. Over 800 were in attendance at our last Taste of Home show in the fall of 2009.
