Navarro Council of the Arts will present a Corsicana Independent School District exhibit at the Warehouse Living Arts Center Gallery, 119 W. Sixth Ave. For more information, contact the Navarro Council of the Arts, (903) 872-5411.



Sept. 1

Christmas in Action, the group that does home repairs for the elderly and needy, has set a Sept. 1 deadline for requests for help. Forms are available through the Corsicana Daily Sun or by calling any of the board members. Priority will go to the elderly, homeowners on fixed incomes, and the disabled, as well as those who contribute to the project financially or who have friends/family willing to help with an individual project. The group will have two work weekends this year, Oct. 16 and 23. Volunteers are currently being sought, as well as teams and team leaders. Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Eureka United Methodist Church. Special Guest will be Navarro County Agent Derek Scasta. The public is invited and refreshments will be served. For more information contact Marlene Bartosh at (903) 872-4699.



Sept. 2

Navarro County Conservatives Organization will meet at 6 p.m. at the Magnolia House in Corsicana.  Guest speakers will include the Democratic Navarro County Commissioner candidate for Precinct 2, Nathan Carter; and Navarro County Commissioner Precinct 4 candidates Sherman Putman, Democrat, and incumbent James Olsen, Republican.  The candidates will be available for questions and to talk about their platform. After the guests speak, there will be an open discussion concerning a special event being hosted by the Navarro County Conservatives Organization — "Get Out The Vote" — that is scheduled for Oct. 16 at the Palace Theater. Several speakers have been lined up for the event.



Blooming Grove Crime Watch is having their monthly meeting at 7 p.m., at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. This months guest speaker is Ruby Coker, Navarro County Treasurer. For more information call (903) 695-2622.



Corsicana Community Blood Drive will be held 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Navarro Shriner’s Building/ Crystal Ballroom. For information or for an appointment contact (800) 448-3543.



VFW Post 3366 will have its monthly meeting of all members in good standing. Meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend and participate!

Corsicana Masonic Lodge will not meet because of Labor Day.



Sept. 7

The Sunbeam Club will follow the life of a trainman as they celebrate Labor Day on the road. Sept. 10

The Navarro County Retired School Employees will have an 11:30 a.m. luncheon  with guest speaker CISD Superintendent Diane Frost, at the Northwest Apartments Community Center, 1360 N. 13th St. All former school employees of the county are urged to attend and renew friendships and make new friends. You do not have to be a member of the organization to attend. We welcome all retired school employees.



Sept. 11

A 9/11 remembrance ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. at Bunert Park in Corsicana.



Cry Out America/Patriot Day, featuring Texas Sen. Brian Birdwell, will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Navarro County Courthouse. Birdwell survived the terrorist attack on the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, and was recently elected state senator for this district.



American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., Corsicana, will have meetings as scheduled. The Executive Committee will meet at 1 p.m. and the Legionnaires will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sons of the American Legion will meet at 3 p.m., and the Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 4 p.m. Please pay your 2011 dues. Angels of Corsicana, 1020 N. Bus. 45, are hosting a U.S. Troop support group and will be gathering items to send in “care-packages” to the soldiers who are from Corsicana and all over the United States. The group will begin meeting at 9 a.m. to begin packing donated items. Everyone who can help will be greatly appreciated.  Every year the group makes Christmas stockings and fills them with personal items that soldiers might want and need. Christmas is near and there is a lot of sewing to be done. If you can sew this would be a great way to help our soldiers. If you have items to donate, they can be dropped off at 4 p.m. daily at the American Legion Post 22, located at 632 N. Beaton Street, Corsicana. Postage is very expensive when sending items overseas, so any donations are greatly appreciated. Carter BloodCare is having a community blood drive on the Carter BloodCare Coach, hosted by McCoy’s Building Supply, 3000 S. Hwy. 287, Corsicana, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 11. Potential donors can be 16 years old with a parent’s consent; 17-year-olds may donate independently and there is no upper age limit for donating blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health, and present a photo ID. Ideally, a donor should also eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids before giving blood. Corsicana FITKAMP is now forming to begin eight weeks of group fitness training to include; eight personalized workouts, nutrition counseling/meal plans, circuit station training, interval training, cardiovascular fitness, hip-hop ABS, and hip-hop turbo kick all taught by certified FITKAMP instructors. Navarro County Geneaology Society will host Bruce McManus, local historian and author, at 10 a.m. in the Nancy Roberts Community Meeting Room of the Corsicana Public Library, 100 N. 12th St.  for its September meeting. The program will focus on cemetery symbolism “Stories in Stone.” Bruce has researched and recorded historical information for over 70 cemeteries in the county. He recently completed a cemetery mapping project for the Texas Department of Transportation and is researching a historical market for the community of Pinkston. Northside Baptist Church to host Grief Share, a special weekly support group for people grieving the death of someone close. At Grief Share meetings valuable information is available to help those going through this type of difficult time life. Grief Share meets 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fellowship Center located at 222 Forest Lane (the white house across from the parking lot). For more information call (903) 874-3277.



Spring Cemetery Association will have their annual meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, at the Dawson Pavilion, which is located in the park. Anyone interested in the up keep of the cemetery is invited to attend this meeting.



Sept. 13

Woodmen of the World Lodge Five will be meeting at 6 p.m. in Liberty Hall, located at American RV Park, 4345 W. Hwy. 31, Corsicana. All members, their families and guests are cordially invited.



The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold its next County Executive Committee Meeting at 7 p.m. at the Republican headquarters, 111-B  W. 3rd Ave., Corsicana. Borah Van Dormolen, Republican National Committee-woman for Texas, will be speaking about the GOTV ‘Get Out The Vote’ program. There will be a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m., hosted by NAVPAC. Sept. 14

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade,  2508 West Seventh Avenue, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961, and May 7,1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

The Freedom Horse Riders and The Rockin B Ranch are sponsoring the First Annual Fall Trail Ride to benefit the When Are We Going Home Ministry, which helps families with medically challenged or special needs children.
