Corsicana — A Corsicana Oktoberfest is being planned to raise money for the annual spring festival of Derrick Days.

The fall event is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 2 in the vicinity of Napoli’s in downtown Corsicana, said Steven Dieterichs, Main Street director for the city.

“Initially, it was going to be inside, but now we’re looking at spilling outside,” he said. “We will have a band called the Alpine Village Band.”

The cost of admission will be $10 and the Derrick Days committee will also be selling bratwurst, sauerkraut and pretzels. Napoli’s will be selling other beverages, probably along with an Oktoberfest beer, Dieterichs said.

Brad Haynie, who has long headed up the Derrick Days committee, said it’s an effort to supplement what the city and sponsors provide.

“It costs so much to do Derrick Days, and the city doesn’t have any more money to help us out,” he said. “We’re just trying to keep the thing going. You’ve got expenses like Port-a-Potties, security and trash pickup. There’s a lot of stuff behind the scenes that most people don’t think about.”
